Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH), under the NHSP initiative, contributes to strengthening the primary healthcare readiness for delivering a high-quality Essential Package of Health Services. This involves both creating demand and ensuring supply-side readiness by empowering providers with essential skills for immunization, family planning, maternal and newborn care, mental health, and nutrition counselling, enhancing staff competency through training, establishing robust referral systems supported by emergency transport, and ensuring the availability of essential drugs and commodities, all to build a resilient healthcare system and improve health outcomes.

Training on Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness

The Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health (RMNCH) program conducted a six-day Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) training from February 24th to March 1st, 2025, at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, with clinical sessions at NICH Karachi. Led by Course Director Dr. Nand Lal and six facilitators. The training equipped 27 healthcare providers from 13 Sindh districts including Badin, Jamshoro, Umerkot, Tharparker, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Karachi Malir, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Khairpur to effectively manage childhood illnesses. Participants learned to classify and treat children under five based on symptoms, aiming to reduce morbidity and mortality. The integrated training included theory, role-plays, group discussions, and clinical demonstrations.

Training on Labour Care Guide

A two-day Labour Care Guide (LCG) training was conducted from 11 to 12 March 2025 at the Crown Hotel, Hyderabad. The Women Medical Officers (WMOs) from various districts were trained on updated management and treatment protocols. The training course was organized by Dr. Naheed Parveen Sheikh, Chairperson, Head of the Department Obs and Gynea at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUHMS) Hyderabad, along with co-facilitators. The objectives of the training were to enhance intrapartum care at Primary Healthcare (PHC) facilities, to ensure safe and evidence-based management of labor and childbirth, and to equip Women Medical Officers (WMOs) with updated knowledge and skills on labor care and management.

Strenghtening Primary Healthcare facility

To further strengthen primary healthcare service delivery, initially,  RMNCH Sindh had conducted a comprehensive facility assessment across 61 Rural Health Centers (RHCs) and Basic Health Units (BHUs) operating under the Department of Health (DOH), Sindh, in 13 districts. Using a standardized scorecard-based assessment, these facilities were evaluated on key service delivery parameters to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement. The insights gained from this assessment are instrumental in ensuring that these healthcare facilities are fully equipped, functionally ready, and capable of delivering essential MNCH services. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality across Sindh, ensuring that every mother and child receives timely and effective medical care.
